Σκοτάδι συγκεντρώσου by Fritz Leiber6/28/2023 Though his work has been wide-ranging, perhaps his most enduring contribution to the fields of speculative fiction is as one of the founders of the school of fantasy known as sword and sorcery – indeed, it was Leiber himself who coined the phrase. Leiber’s work has won him Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy Awards, and he has been honored as an SFWA Grand Master, while also receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Horror Writers Association and induction into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame – one of the few writers who can boast membership in so many exclusive fellowships. Howard, there are few titans who tower higher over the worlds of science fiction, fantasy, and horror than Fritz Leiber, having penned immortal classics in all three genres. All about love hooks6/28/2023 And as a result, we will both love people differently and change our definition of what it looks like when someone loves us. This, she posits, will help us to alter both our perspective and our definition of love. Instead, we should borrow from the classic old adage which posits, “Love is a verb,” and think about love as a continuous action rather than a feeling that comes and goes. But the author argues that we shouldn’t think of love as a feeling at all. hooks is in the business of life-changing, really, whether she's teaching us how to love in the face of a planet of lovelessness, or teaching us to. Because we think of love as a feeling, we often make decisions - and base our definition of love - on the presence (or lack) of that feeling in our lives. It came to me at just the right second (by which I mean, I took it from the house where I was house-sitting at just the right second), and I have taken it straight to heart. So, what can we do? How can we clear up these misconceptions and find the true definition of love? How can we heal our pain? The author suggests that the answer is simple: we need to change our perspective. The world is full of so much pain and, sadly, a good deal of it occurs because we are so confused about love. With the prevalence of these misconceptions, it’s no surprise that people wind up using and abusing each other or breaking each other’s hearts. There is no director better suited to tell Michaela’s journey with passion and sensitivity, and we cannot wait to bring this film to audiences all around the world.” Glickman said, “We could not be more thrilled that Madonna will bring this remarkable story to the big screen. She is the highest-selling female recording artist of all time, with more than 300 million albums sold worldwide. Madonna also produced and wrote “I Am Because We Are,” a documentary about Malawi’s million orphans in the wake of the AIDS pandemic. Her upcoming projects include co-writing and directing a film adaptation of Andrew Sean Greer’s novel “The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells.” Madonna made her feature directing debut on the 2008 British comedy “Filth and Wisdom.” She also helmed and co-wrote 2011’s “W.E.,” which chronicled the relationship between King Edward VIII and American divorcee Wallis Simpson. She appeared in Beyonce’s “Lemonade” in 2016 and is currently a soloist at the Dutch National Ballet. She was featured in the 2012 ballet documentary “First Position” and later debuted as a professional dancer at the age of 17 in the Joburg Ballet in South Africa. “We were immediately awestruck by Michaela’s journey and know Madonna’s vision and passion for the material will deliver a film that inspires audiences everywhere,” Morgenstein said.ĭePrince was adopted at the age of four and taken to the United States by Elaine and Charles DePrince. Kushiel's Avatar by Jacqueline Carey6/27/2023 So Phèdre and Joscelin get involved in all sorts of African adventures, and along the way, Phèdre picks up a handy Name of God that frees Hyacinthe. This bizarre, D'Angeline logic doesn't appeal to me, but it certainly drives the plot forward. But apparently, Melisande thinks that if anyone can find Imriel when she can't, it's the one woman whom she's outsmarted for ten years by hiding her son. The fact that she's been searching for him for ten years with no success doesn't really recommend her for this job. Phèdre, who has serious issues with Melisande, ends up promising to find Imriel. Melisande's son, Imriel, who is third-in-line for the throne of Terre D'Ange, has gone missing. Phèdre gets a dubious break in her search when she's contacted by aforementioned smoked-out traitor, Melisande Shahrizai. That is, when she isn't busy traipsing around the continent making alliances, smoking out traitors, and-let us not forget-serving Namaah. Ever since then, Phèdre has been scouring all the Yeshuite lore she can lay hands on for a way of breaking the curse. Way back in Kushiel’s Dart (remember that? remember?), Hyacinthe saved Phèdre from having to take the place of the cursed Master of the Straits. Specifically, we recall the contribution of Hyacinthe, a Romani-sorry, Tsingano-prince and lifelong friend of Phèdre. We begin "ten years later…" with a recap of the previous two books, reminding us who this Phèdre chick is and why we care. Soon after my return to Terre d'Ange in Kushiel's Chosen, I'm back for round three: Kushiel's Avatar. 'I LOVE IT! It's written in a really easy-to-understand way, without too much jargon, and the technical stuff is explained in a clear way.' You articulate the concepts beautifully and the personal illustration from your life, so generously included, brings it to life and makes it real.' There were so many things you said that resonated so clearly with my experience. 'This isn't just a book for people before they adopt this is also a book for adopters. This book goes beyond the tired cliché of 'attachment' however, pulling together relevant strands of many different psychological theories and disciplines, all of which is juxtaposed against heart-wrenching and emotional accounts taken from McGill's own blog, giving the reader a unique and personal insight in to the day to day struggles of her family. McGill has a background in developmental psychology and uses this to great effect the theory sections of MTBTM are relevant, researched, and related to real-life examples from McGill's own experience with her adopted son. Me, the Boy, and The Monster is a personal, thoughtful, and touching tribute to a family's journey through the world of adoption and trauma. Doktor faustus thomas mann6/26/2023 He strikes a Faustian bargain for creative genius: he intentionally contracts syphilis, which deepens his artistic inspiration through madness. Leverkühn's extraordinary intellect and creativity as a young man mark him as destined for success, but his ambition is for true greatness. The narrator is Leverkühn's childhood friend Serenus Zeitblom, who writes in Germany between 19. The story centers on the life and work of the (fictitious) composer Adrian Leverkühn. The novel is a re-shaping of the Faust legend set in the context of the first half of the 20th century and the turmoil of Germany in that period. Doctor Faustus is a German novel written by Thomas Mann, begun in 1943 and published in 1947 as Doktor Faustus: Das Leben des deutschen Tonsetzers Adrian Leverkühn, erzählt von einem Freunde ("Doctor Faustus: The Life of the German Composer Adrian Leverkühn, Told by a Friend"). |
